A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A MAINTENANCE CLERK

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A MAINTENANCE CLERK

Taking care of a property on behalf of the Landlord and Tenant is a challenge. What the Tenant might want and what the Landlord might authorise to happen are two different things, plus having to keep in mind that both the Tenant and Landlord have to be happy with the compromise.  We asked Scott to tell a bit more about this delicate balance and the other challenges that Maintenance Clerks face on a day-to-day basis.

“Being a Maintenance Clerk is certainly a role that with each day provides completely different challenges. We are the first point of contact for Tenants to call for anything in need of repair in their property, so we must prioritise our workload, as some repairs require immediate attention e.g. a broken boiler.

Our task is to get as much information as possible from the Tenant when they are reporting maintenance issues and troubleshoot where possible to try to solve the issues they are experiencing over the phone.

Luckily, we have a wide range of approved contractors who we can call upon to resolve any problems we encounter, anything from a leaking outside tap to a full house refurbishment. All work carried out by the contractors is to a very high standard.

We then liaise with our Landlords and Tenants to keep them both fully updated throughout the process. On larger jobs, we always ask the contractor to take photographs as its good practice to show the Landlords the completed job as we have many that live overseas and do not get to visit the property often.

Working in maintenance is always very fast paced and demanding. However, it can also be extremely rewarding when you are able to use your knowledge and experience to help our clients reach a positive conclusion.”

If you have the desire to be challenged, kept on your toes and enjoy problem solving, then being a Maintenance Clerk could be the dream job! Are you interested in giving it a go? Well, why not apply today on: http://www.thornleygroves.co.uk/careers/
