A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A LETTINGS CONSULTANT

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A LETTINGS CONSULTANT

Ever wanted to be a Lettings Consultant? If you are undecided then maybe you just need to read the description of the role from a Letting Consultant themselves; our very own Laura!

“The best way I can explain a working day at Thornley Groves as a lettings consultant is to imagine yourself working at a Circus. Can you juggle various tasks? Keep a good working balance between Landlords and potential Tenants and put a smile on the clients faces?

Our day begins in the office at 8.30am where we must be available to handle visits and phone calls from potential new Tenants and Landlords from the moment we open. This continues throughout the day, however, you should also be out showing applicants suitable properties. Each day requires us to perform both tasks while remaining efficient, helpful and professional.

My favourite part of the role is finding people their dream home and building trust with our Tenants and Landlords so they know they have received the best service possible. We have company cars splashed with the Thornley Groves branding so when you drive from viewing to viewing you feel very professional. It also allows you to get to and from viewings quickly and safely, as well as providing the opportunity to take a client or applicant as a passenger. There really is nothing like the buzz of a frantic afternoon, with a stream of interested applicants wanting to view your properties.

We do organise referencing for our new tenants and conduct credit checks, employment checks, right to rent checks and, also, a previous landlord check. Most of the time this is plain sailing, however, when something crops up within the reports it is our job to solve the mystery. This can test all our patience but we must ensure these checks are complete so our landlords are happy and are protected with the correct rent guarantees where needed.

My favourite aspect of being a lettings consultant is going through the application process. This is because it gives you really good buzz once you have finished an application and the sense of satisfaction knowing that your clients are happy because you helped them find a property and your hard work has paid off! It can take many viewings, many hours on the phone and many negotiations, but when you get there and close the deal it is a proud moment.

All in all, every day is different as a lettings consultant. This is also the most challenging part! However, it is enjoyable and personally satisfying when you log off and head home for the evening knowing you have successfully completed a hard days work.”
